Minecraft First Week, Split by Roles: A Community SMP Blueprint

25.10.2026 · 3 min · rev 25.10.2026

Minecraft survival is easy alone and magical with friends — and it is with friends that most Indonesian community servers are born: a small SMP among classmates, coworkers, or a Discord group spread across islands. The classic failure is not creepers; it is four players all mining, nobody farming, and a base that never grows. This blueprint splits the first week into roles, so a group of two to four players builds a working village by day seven.

Assign Roles Before the First Sunset

Two players at minimum: one Provider (food, farms, animals) and one Miner (depths, iron, diamonds). Three adds a Builder; four adds a Scout who maps, tames horses and hauls supplies. Everyone shares night-one shelter duty. Write the roles in the server chat and honor them — an SMP dies of duplicated effort more often than of monsters, and everyone punching trees on day three is how villages stall.

Night One: One Roof for Everyone

Whoever spawns first digs a shared hideout into a hillside: dirt and stone, a door, torches, one crafting table, one furnace, and beds for all — three wool from three different sheep per bed, color irrelevant. Skip gold entirely. The Provider pens two cows or pigs immediately and plants a twelve-tile wheat field with a water channel. By nightfall the group has food, light, and respawn points, which is the entire day-one victory condition.

Days Two-Three: The Miner’s Ladder

The Miner branch-mines at Y-level 15 on the way down for iron and coal, carrying a water bucket as lava insurance and never digging straight down. The target is a full iron kit for every member: armor, sword, pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe, bucket, shears — fifteen ingots each. The Provider doubles the farm and starts a sugarcane plot for books and enchanting later. The Builder, if present, outlines the village: well, houses, farm perimeter, and a wall to light.

Days Four-Seven: Systems, Not Structures

With iron secured, the week turns to infrastructure: a basic mob farm — dark room, water streams, kill chamber — supplies bones, arrows and gunpowder forever; a storage hall with labeled chests ends the item chaos; and the Scout maps routes between spawn, village and a nether portal site. Hold a weekly meeting at the well: one shared project per week, voted. Servers that plan together survive; servers that solo together quietly empty by month two.

The Long Game

By day seven your SMP should have full iron, a food surplus, a working mob farm and a village worth defending. From there, enchanting, redstone automation and the Nether wait in a sensible order. The real trick was never the diamonds — it was the role chart on day one, and the meeting at the well.

Backups and Server Peace

One habit keeps community servers alive: backups. Copy the world folder weekly, or ask the host to enable scheduled saves, and agree on two simple rules — no griefing, and no building inside anyone’s marked perimeter without asking. Most Indonesian SMPs collapse from broken trust, not broken code; a shared chest of emergency gear at spawn and a written repair rule for accidents keep friendships intact when creepers or lag do their worst.
